- X-Plane 11 – Now Even More Powerful With a brand new user interface, and a new level of quality in the included aircraft, X-Plane 11 is the upgrade you've been hoping for.
- The X-15 was the first plane to demonstrate hypersonic flight—over Mach 5—and set a manned speed record in 1967. In the early 2000s, the X-35 evolved into the F-35 fighter jet.
The 11th edition of X-Plane offers a much more realistic and immersive experience. A new rendering engine makes the whole world appear in a new light – literally. Due to 'Physically Based Rendering', illumination and reflections behave in physically correct ways and change depending on viewing angle and the object's surface. This technique works dynamically which means that graphical effects no longer have to be prerendered. It was also developed with very good performance in mind. Furthermore, X-Plane 11 features a brand new sound engine that realizes 3D surround sound with high quality samples. This works on a global scale resulting in spatially correct audio placement of any aircraft and any object within the scenery while also taking the current location of the user into account. The sound engine is fully usable and extendable by third-party add-ons.
The content of X-Plane 11 is also considerably expanded. Numerous new aircraft with 3D cockpits and extensive documentation are available to the virtual pilot; add to that more than 3,000 airports with 3D buildings, static aircraft and dynamic environments. The global scenery sees new cities specific to Europe and North America and an update to its overall layout based on recent Open Street Map material.
In the completely redesigned user interface, the control setup, aircraft, airports and weather options are now presented with a visual preview which makes editing them a breeze. The simulator can now be controlled much more intuitively thanks to this well thought-out menu structure.
Considering all this, X-Plane 11 is the most modern flight simulator – still a simulation, but closer to reality than ever before! X-Plane 11 is an exciting simulator for the true pilot and aspiring pilots everywhere!
X-Plane is required software to run the Gleim X-Plane Flight Training Course. Purchase the discounted set here.
X-Plane 11 - Now Even More Powerful
X-Plane is not a game, but an engineering tool that can be used to predict the flying qualities of fixed- and rotary-wing aircraft with incredible accuracy. Because X-Plane predicts the performance and handling of almost any aircraft, it is a great tool for pilots to keep up their currency in a simulator that flies like the real plane, for engineers to predict how a new airplane will fly, and for aviation enthusiasts to explore the world of aircraft flight dynamics.
Welcome to the world of props, jets, single- and multi-engine airplanes, as well as gliders, helicopters and VTOLs. X-Plane contains subsonic and supersonic flight dynamics, allowing users to predict the flight characteristics of the slowest aircraft or the fastest. X-Plane 11 also includes 9 aircraft in the default installation, spanning the aviation industry and its history. The default fleet has been upgraded for X-Plane 11 to ensure consistent quality and usability. All the aircraft have been lovingly overhauled to have stunning exteriors and completely functional 3D cockpits.
- Cessna 172SP
- Beechcraft Baron 58
- Beechcraft King Air C90
- Cirrus Vision SF50
- Boeing 737-800
- Boeing 747-400
- McDonnell Douglas MD-80
- Schleicher ASK 21
- Sikorsky S-76
Additionally, thousands of aircraft models can be downloaded from the Internet (X-Plane.org, is a good place to start looking), many of which are completely free. If those aren't enough, users can even design their own airplanes and test-fly them!
The full X-Plane scenery package covers the Earth in stunning resolution. On Earth, users can land at any of over 33,000 airports or test their mettle on aircraft carriers, oil rigs, frigates (which pitch and roll with the waves), or helipads atop buildings. You can fly with friends over the Internet or a LAN, and shoot approaches at night in stormy weather and rough conditions with simulated aircraft systems failures. The situations that can be simulated are unbelievably diverse!
Weather in X-Plane is variable from clear skies and high visibility to thunderstorms with controllable wind, wind shear, turbulence, and micro bursts. Rain, snow, and clouds are available for an instrument flying challenge, and thermals are available for the gliders. Actual weather conditions can be downloaded from the Internet, allowing users to fly in the weather that really exists at their current location!
X-Plane has detailed failure modeling, with multitudes of systems that can either be failed manually at an instructor's command, or randomly when users least expect it! Users can fail instruments, engines, flight controls, control cables, antennae, landing gear, or any of dozens of other systems at any moment. They can also have a friend or flight instructor (locally or via the Internet, working from an Instructor's Operating Station) fail components on the aircraft without the pilot's knowledge. The instructor can alter the time of day, weather conditions, and failure status of hundreds of aircraft systems and components. Additionally, the instructor can relocate the aircraft to a location of his or her choice at any time.
Aircraft models are also extremely flexible, allowing users to easily create paint jobs, sounds, and instrument panels to modify any airplane you choose. Custom airplane or helicopter designs can even be created and flown using X-Plane and the included Plane Maker software. X-Plane's accuracy (in flight model), scope (in aircraft and terrain coverage), versatility (in aircraft type and weather conditions), add-on programs (in aircraft and scenery editors), customizability, downloadable aircraft, and downloadable scenery make it the ultimate flight simulation experience.
What's New in X-Plane 11
- Brand new user interface and controls setup
- New aircraft with 3D cockpits plus detailed documentation
- Now with over 3,000 airports with 3D buildings
- Airports populated with static aircraft plus dynamic airport environments
- New rendering engine for enhanced lighting and water effects
- New city scenery specific to Europe and North America
- Latest road placement and global scenery from Open Street Map
Peripherals
We also highly recommend the use of a control yoke and rudder pedals. While X-Plane does allow you to fly using the mouse, it's much more beneficial to your training to use flight controls that are similar to what you will be using in the actual airplane.
Shop for flight simulator hardware and peripherals.
Included on the X-Plane DVD:
- X-Plane 11 (the actual flight simulator)
- Plane Maker (to make your own planes and helicopters, if desired)
- Airfoil Maker (to make airfoils for your custom aircraft)
System Requirements
X-Plane 11 requires, at the minimum,
- CPU: Intel Core i3, i5, or i7 CPU with 2 or more cores, or AMD equivalent. (Dual-core CPUs slower than 3 GHz should try the demo before purchasing.)
- Memory: 8 GB RAM
- Video Card: a DirectX 11-capable video card from NVIDIA, AMD or Intel with at least 1 GB VRAM
- DVD drive.
If your system is borderline, we encourage you to try the demo first. The full version of the simulator will perform exactly the same as the demo—neither better nor worse.
However, for the best experience, we recommend the following:
- CPU: 3+ GHz, quad-core or higher
- Memory: 16 GB RAM or more
- Video Card: a DirectX 12-capable video card from NVIDIA, AMD or Intel with at least 4 GB VRAM (GeForce GTX 1060 or better or similar from AMD)
More information about supported video cards and operating systems can be found at the X-Plane System Requirements page.
If your system does not meet the minimum requirements, consider purchasing X-Plane 10.
High Performance Hardware Required
For the best performance, X-Plane requires a high performance computer system. The Gleim Virtual Cockpit Ultimate Set includes a PC that exceeds the recommended system requirements.

That is a heck of a project presentation. On our forums the team behind this new project is showing the progress of the project, which is based on a paid, professionally-developed 3D model.
The team, HSF Studio, seems to have access to data and documentation that will help them develop the EC-135, again, to the best of their abilities.
This is their first project so expect them to spend some time learning the ropes as they try to raise their own bar to bring this helicopter to life. As such, don't expect a date of release anytime soon.
